Rekindling the True Spirit of Christmas: Why Remembering the Reason Matters

Isaiah 9:6-7a “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government.”

Merry Christmas! This is the time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus. When we say Merry Christmas, what we say is more than a phrase we traditionally express to others this time of year.

Whether people recognize this or not, the celebration of Christmas is part of our nation’s founding on Judeo-Christian principles. Our country has a long history of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. However, the Left attacks Christmas and seeks to replace it with its multicultural agenda, which aims to destroy the American identity. The reason why the Left

hates Christmas is because Christmas recognizes Jesus as Lord. Christ, not man or government, is King.

Just as Isaiah points out, Christmas points to King Jesus as ruler over kings, presidents, prime ministers, parliaments, and Congress. Also, “there will be no end to the increase of His government.” The rule and authority of Jesus have threatened the influence of governments throughout history. From the Roman Empire to the Soviet Union, faithful Christians were threats to their governments because they believed that Christ, not Ceaser, was the Lord.

Christ’s rule and authority supersedes that of government. True Christians will obey the authority of Christ and Scripture over that of government when that government exceeds and abuses its God-given authority. Christ is the ruler of kings, and it is by faith in Him alone that man can be saved. Salvation does not come from our government.

So, no matter how much the Left tries to attack Christmas, we will continue to say Merry Christmas in our towns. We are not going to cave to the multicultural agenda and allow them to erase or replace Christmas. In our district and our state, we say Merry Christmas.

That said, my family and I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. We look forward to what God has in store for us in 2024, but more than that, we eagerly await the second coming of His Son.

He rules the world with

truth and grace,

and makes the nations prove

the glories of His

righteousness

and wonders of His love,

and wonders of His love,

and wonders, wonders of His love.

Sincerely,

Blair Eddins
