I have been focusing on a significant issue in my campaign: the need to restrain government. We all lived through COVID-19 and saw firsthand how our federal and state governments exercised excessive authority beyond their constitutional parameters. Since 2020, we are reaping the consequences of out-of-control government with higher prices at the pump and grocery stores. It is high time that our elected officials in Raleigh act to restrain the government from infringing on our freedoms and means for prosperity.
The 10th Amendment to the US Constitution says, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” We can all agree that Washington has disregarded this Amendment in the Bill of Rights. Washington has assumed power that neither the Constitution nor the states gave it. The states have surrendered much of their autonomy and sovereignty to Washington for too long.
This is why we need representatives in our state government who will stand up and protect our citizens from government overreach. We need representatives who will keep the government in check when it exceeds its constitutional parameters. We need state leaders who say “No” when government bureaucrats want to exercise unconstitutional authority over North Carolina. If elected as your representative in Raleigh, I will not sit by and capitulate to government overreach. I will never permit someone like Anthony Fauci to tell us what we can and cannot do pertaining to our health freedoms.
Our country needs to return to some good, old-fashioned federalism. To be clear, federalism is a system of government where the national government has some authority. At the same time, the states, local communities, and the American people hold more authority. Our central government in Washington was not meant to have all authority. That is why the Constitution divides power between the three branches and instills rights to the citizens and the states.
Yet, we all saw in 2020 how the government wants more control at the federal and state levels. In North Carolina, Governor Roy Cooper did not hold back when he feverishly worked to suppress our freedoms and liberties. If he had had his way, he would have forced all citizens of North Carolina to get the COVID-19 vaccine, as he did for state employees who work under him. Thankfully, our state representatives put a stop to this. We need to ensure that our government leaders in Raleigh do not exceed their authority.
Limited government is the cornerstone of individual liberty and economic prosperity. A limited government ensures that power remains in the hands of the people, guarding against potential abuses and preserving the essence of a free and self-governing nation.
I am running to represent you in the 94th district so that we can make sure Washington and Raleigh do not tread us. We need to send someone to Raleigh who will say “No” to unconstitutional bills, executive orders, and mandates. We do not need politicians telling us they know what’s best for us. They need to be reminded that they work for us, that we do not work for them.
On March 5th, I hope to earn your vote and support to go to Raleigh and ensure our government does not overstep its bounds. Together, we can make sure of this.
Sincerely,
Blair Eddins
